White Tie

White Tie

White tie is the most formal dress code for evening wear. It is usually reserved for state banquets, the opera, ballet and balls but it is becoming increasingly popular attire at formal wedding dinners. White tie consists of a black jacket with tails, a top hat, stiff wing collar shirt, white vest and a white bow tie made from Marcella cotton.

Unless you happen to be a member of the British royal family, there are very few occasions in life that call for white tie. However, when those occasions do crop up, it’s essential to be dressed correctly with top hat, white tie and tails.

White tie is usually worn at very formal ceremonies, balls, banquets, the opera and the ballet. The dress code is thought to have been the brainchild of English-French cricketer and fashion designer Beau Brummell, who was famous in the early 1800s for simplifying the ornate fashions of the time. In recent years there has been a revival of interest in white tie, which could be down to the rise of popular period dramas like Downton Abbey.

The rules of white tie are strict and particular, so we’ve made your job easier by providing everything you need here for your white tie affair, including Marcella cotton shirts, onyx cufflink, self tie and pre tie white bow ties, black top hats, white cotton gloves, white suspenders, white tie pants, white tie jackets, white pique backless vests, and optional dress canes for added impact.

There’s nothing quite like walking into the venue of a white tie event. The grand top hats and impeccably white shirts and waistcoats create quite the impact. With a few clicks/swipes on this page you could be looking just as grand!
