Vests, which cover the torso and leave the arms free, flatter most men’s body types. They’re designed to draw in the waist, trim the torso and create a sleek, elegant silhouette. Unsurprisingly, vests originated in an era famous for its sartorial opulence – the 17th century, when King Charles II of England introduced them as part of correct dress after seeing the vests worn by Persian aristocracy in the court of Shah Abbas. Fortunately the vest is one of the only remnants of 17th century fashion still going today (although Charles’ billowing centre parted curls enjoyed a worldwide revival in the ‘80s).

Today, vests are worn with three piece suits, traditional wedding suits and on their own as part of smart-casual and day wear. There are a number of different styles of men’s vests. Single breasted is the most versatile option for the office, evening and casual occasions, whilst double breasted is considered to be more formal and ideal for weddings. We stock vests in a wide spectrum of colors perfect for matching to any suit or wedding color scheme.
